Henley
The Henley shirt was named after attire originally worn by rowers in the eponymous Henley Regatta, back when it was all pip-pip-cheerio and less of this space-age lycra malarky. Keeps that certain charm, though: pragmatic but classy. And while this is obviously not an England shirt, the navy detailing also calls to mind that wilderness period of English international football — 1987 through 1993, ignoring the beautiful aberration of 1990 — where the team itself had never been worse but the kits? Perhaps the kits had never looked better. Fun to think of Gary Mabbutt and Mark Hateley tearing up the Thames, sculling a sleek, un-rigged shell to the rhythm of a frankly terrified coxswain (David Platt).
