The team you support? How did you get hooked?
JF: My first team, Arsenal – through Thierry Henry :) I got hooked going to the Vélodrome after watching my first Olympique de Marseille Game there. Le Classique, OM-PSG, 1–1. I just loved the energy.
Do you have a match day ritual when watching the game?
JF: There are several bars we like to go and watch the Arsenal games: our friend Megan’s bar and restaurant Bonnies, for Champions League nights and merguez sandwiches, The Red Lion for Premier League and a Guinness.
AB: My match day ritual is looking after the kids and checking the results, ah!
Are there pitches in the city that mean something to you?
AB: Stade Vallier, because it’s where our son Ezra takes football classes every Wednesday morning, soccer mum vibes.
JF: I like the Stade Henri Tasso, close to the Catalans Beach, where I sometimes train with my 7-a-side team.
Is there a spot in the city that has nothing to do with football, but feels like it does to you?
AB: Maybe the Canebière Boulevard, close to where we live, you can know the result of any important football game (particularly Algeria & OM) based on the level of car beeping, people cheering and fireworks.
What is the best pre-match spot for atmosphere?
JF: There’s a kiosk called L’Oasis Michelet opposite the Vélodrome, where you can see all the pre-match fireworks and hear all the chanting.

The meal you’ve had most often this year, and where?
AB & JF: The leftovers of our kids’ chicken and French fries at the Danaïdes Brasserie. Simple French food, but a very easy location and a great outdoor seating area. Great for people watching.
A record shop, a venue, or a night that makes the city for you?
AB & JF: Record shop: Dizonord, Venue: Twali and Night: So Ruff So Tough. Thanks to Antoine, Remi, Karim and Shorty!
Somewhere you go that has nothing to do with football and everything to do with how you think.
AB: There are so many bookshops I haven’t been to and want to check out! I would say Shed Publishing and Giselle’s Books. And also Studio 55 where I sometimes co-work, is opening a shop this summer.
JF: Sissi club, the commercial gallery space from our friends Elise and Anne, My project space Féria.
The newest place in the city that’s actually good?
AB & JF: Ivresse au Frac Sud at Joliette, which is a wine bar and restaurant that also hosts events inside a regional exhibition space. We also love the two outdoor terraces, real islands of calm in a busy area.
The classic that hasn’t moved?
AB & JF: Two Tunisian restaurants that always hit the spot - Sur Le Pouce and Chez Yassine.
A match abroad you’d plan a whole trip around?
JF: Barcelona is a five-hour drive away, so we’d love to see El Clásico at Camp Nou.
Your ‘insider tip’ for a football fan visiting Marseille for the first time?
AB: Go to eat Nadjatie’s marvellous food at Douceur Piquante! Order everything on the menu and take your time.
JF: Go check the Marseille Ultra graffiti on La Plaine.

Any other advice for someone visiting Marseille?
AB & JF: Respect the beaches, don’t use Airbnb. Always have cash on you and think where you spend!
